About The Artist
Sebastian Mendes, is an artist, working in the Pacific Northwest of the United States
For the past six tears, he has taught studio and contemporary art seminar courses at Western Washington University. He is permanent member of the Advisory Board to Western’s nationally distinguished Outdoor Sculpture Collection, which has consistently been ranked by the International Sculpture Center and Sculpture Magazine as one of the ten best outdoor sculpture collections in America.
Since 1978, Mendes’ work has been in Solo and group exhibitions in the United Sates and abroad.
Since 2002, he has been the producer of Yellow Radio (kugs.org), a regularly broadcast program of new and unusual experimental music and sound art.
Sebastian has occasionally spoken in the US and abroad about his grandfather Aristides de Sousa Mendes who was an important figure in the Holocaust.
He was born and raised in San Francisco and has diplomas in art and aesthetic studies from St. Martin's School of Art, in London, Stanford University, and the University of California, at Santa Cruz. He currently lives in Bellingham, Washington.
